Good news makes a good week

This week has been one of the best weeks I’ve had in a long time and it is all down to clients sharing good news with me. I will openly say that I am lucky to have the clientele that I have because they all come ready to do the work. It is humbling and an honor to be a part of their process. While I provide guidance and a sounding board, they do all of the heavy lifting and application. It is very gratifying work that, if my health allows, I will be doing for many years to come. It is challenging work that requires tons of creativity and patience. The thing most often missing in my job is positive reinforcement. Most clients understandably do not share their good news and oftentimes just disappear when things are good. I get it. My main role is to put out fires and help people get from a place of mostly bad days to a place of more good days than bad. Once that is achieved, most people do not feel the need to see me or contact me anymore. That is what makes it especially rewarding when clients reach out and share good news.

This week I have had four former clients and two current clients reach out to me and share good news, which is unheard of for me. Two couples I worked with who were on the brink of divorce are pregnant and one other couple just adopted. It is such a good feeling to read about their happiness. A fourth client that was working through debilitating anxiety and depression just completed their first term in graduate school. A current client just got accepted into graduate school and a second client just landed their dream job. I couldn’t be happier for all of them. I am deeply touched they thought to share their happiness with me. It is especially timely because I am not doing well health-wise, as is the case every August. Receiving all of this positivity is just what I needed to get me through the end of this week and then Chad and I are off to Hakone for a much-needed vacation. I think next year I am going to plan the trip earlier in August instead of the first week in September. August being a five Saturday month made it a five-week work month for me, and it would have made more sense for me to take time off in August but for some reason I decided to take the trip in September this year.  Anyhow, I am on cloud nine with this all of this good news and I am going to bask in it.
